The Eidon retinal imaging camera is an advanced eye imaging device used by optometrists and ophthalmologists to take detailed, high-resolution pictures of the retina—the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. Unlike standard eye exams that primarily look at the front structures of the eye, this camera allows your eye doctor to see deep into the retina, including the optic nerve and blood vessels, without dilation in many cases.
Here’s why getting an Eidon retinal scan is important:
Early Detection of Eye Diseases – It can help identify early signs of conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears, or detachments, often before symptoms appear. Early detection is crucial because many eye diseases are asymptomatic until significant vision loss occurs.
Detailed, Wide-Field View – The Eidon captures a wide-field, true-color image of your retina, giving your doctor a comprehensive view in a single scan. This is more informative than traditional photos and helps spot subtle changes.
Non-Invasive and Quick – The scan is painless, fast, and comfortable. Many patients don’t even need pupil dilation, which means no blurred vision or light sensitivity afterward.
Track Changes Over Time – The images are stored digitally, so your doctor can compare scans from visit to visit, helping to monitor disease progression or detect new problems early.
Better Patient Education – With clear, detailed images, patients can see exactly what their doctor sees, making it easier to understand eye health and the importance of treatment or lifestyle changes.
In short, an Eidon retinal scan is a powerful tool for proactive eye care, helping protect your vision and catch serious conditions early—sometimes before you even notice a problem.
